August 2006
  Weird World

Welcome to the August 2006 round up of news and views on UFOs, alien abductions, crop circles, ghosts, the paranormal, the unexplained, the weird and the wonderful.

3-D Crop Circle Discovered

The most interesting new crop circle formation of the 2006 season has been discovered in a field in Oxfordshire, close to the site of a Neolithic burial chamber and the famous white horse of Uffington. Crop circles are often found near ancient sites and this formation, which is a massive 360 feet across, is certainly generating a lot of interest. The vast formation gives the appearance of being a three dimensional image and has already been featured in the Daily Mail and other newspapers. Check out the Daily Mail story and an image of the formation, and go to for details of this and other 2006 formations.

Big Brother Ghost

Is the Big Brother house haunted? Former Miss Wales, Imogen, is convinced that she saw a ghost in the house and asked the TV producers to check the tapes. As activity in the house is recorded on a 24/7 basis, could we have recorded evidence of a haunting? Big Brother producers have yet to reveal whether the tapes recorded what Imogen described as looking more like a huge spider, but the story has been reported in several national newspapers and magazines and is generating some serious mainstream media interest. Check out The Mirror coverage for details of this spooky occurrence in the Big Brother house. Mary, from Big Brother 6, claimed to be an alien abductee, so there is an intriguing theme of paranormal occurrences running through this amazingly popular TV series.

Rendlesham Forest CD

Jon Sorensen has released an ambient music CD entitled Rendlesham Forest, based on the world famous UFO encounters. Comprising 80 minutes of music and 18 tracks, the composition is another example of how this classic UFO encounter has entered into popular culture. Check out for details of the album and for more general information about Jon and his work.

QuestCon 06

Details of the annual QuestCon, organised by Andrew Collins, have now been announced. Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince (who made an appearance in the film version of The Da Vinci Code) will be discussing Leonardo Da Vinci and the Sion revelation, while other speakers include John Reid, Geoff Stray, Anthony Murphy and Greg Little. Andrew Collins will be discussing his new book The Cygnus Mystery. Check out and for details of the conference and the book.

Into The Unknown

If you like Quatermass or Doctor Who, check out Into The Unknown - a biography of acclaimed scriptwriter Nigel Kneale, an underrated and largely forgotten hero of horror, sci-fi and popular culture. This intriguing book has been favourably reviewed by well-respected genre magazines such as SFX and is penned by respected film reviewer Andy Murray. Check out for details.

My Spirit Radio

A new online radio station has started up, catering for a wide range of esoteric and New Age interests. My Spirit Radio features a range of interviews and music and is well worth a look. Check out for details. From angels to palmistry, Feng Shui to herbalism, this intriguing new radio station is worth checking out.

Budd Hopkins UK Conference Appearance

Budd Hopkins will be making a welcome return to the UK for a conference on 14 and 15 October this year, organised by Dave Gillham and his CUFORG group in Truro, Cornwall. Check out for details of the conference and for details of the presentations. Aside from Budd, I shall be presenting an interesting new twist on the Rendlesham Forest incident, while other speakers include Gary Heseltine, Jason Andrews and Dave Gillham. Budd has not spoken in the UK for several years, so this conference is going to be big news.

The Complete Saga Of The Victims

I received for review a bizarre, disturbing but well-written and amazingly illustrated graphic novel the other day, entitled The Complete Saga of the Victims. It has an alien theme, but also incorporates horror and the macabre. Check out and for more details. But this is adults only material, so be warned.

Ed's Note:

Nick Pope has written four books. Open Skies, Closed Minds is an overview of the UFO phenomenon with the emphasis on his official Ministry of Defence research and investigation. The Uninvited is an overview of the alien abduction mystery. Operation Thunder Child and Operation Lightning Strike are science fiction novels about alien invasion, incorporating UFO and abduction data. All four titles are available from most good bookshops and all the usual Internet book sites.
