Welcome to autumn, dear readers – and what a busy September it was here in dear old Blighty!
LONDON FASHION WEEK was a 'lorra lorra' laffs this season with all sorts of lively gals like CILLA BLACK strutting their stuff on various catwalks across the capital – and here is the delightful lady herself, with the equally delightful CHRISTOPHER BIGGINS (of whom more later) at the launch of his fab memoirs, JUST BIGGINS.
CILLA BLACK and CHRISTOPHER BIGGINS. C.r.: GABOR SCOTT.
I myself was in compering mode and the show I enjoyed presenting most was THE MILLINERS' SHOW at THE MAD HATTERS' BALL at THE ARTS CLUB. This fab extravaganza was organised by the incomparable JEAN-FRANCOIS D'OR and featured London's top hat designers, DEIDA ACERO, TATIANA HENDERSON-STEWART, SIGGI and CAROLINE MORRIS. Guests were treated to a stunning backdrop of designs by ANDREW LOGAN who was there in person, hatter and jeweller extraordinaire DAVID SHILLING gave a rousing speech, SIMON ROGERS body painted male models MARCEL and EMANUEL to perfection, female models were supplied by THE DIANA TEENAGE MODEL AGENCY (such a shame they had to take time off from their GCSE studies, the poor things!) and NICK BONHAM auctioned various fabulous prizes in aid of THE ARTS CLUB CHARITABLE TRUST.
SALLY and DEIDA ACERO. C.r.: PABLO SALGADO.
DEIDA'S and my delightful titfers were of course created by her good self (www.deidahats.com), my dress was by AMAKA (020 7436 4013) and my tan was, as ever, by THE TANNING SHOP in Kensington (020 7938 1932).
By the way when you are maintaining your tan at home, always go for the 'light' colour unless your skin is black or seriously dark. This is a little tip given to me by DAILY MAIL diarist, Royal expert and best friend of PRINCESS DIANA, RICHARD KAY, one of the nicest Gentlemen of the British Press, when we bumped into each other in the Health and Beauty aisle at TESCO recently! (You meet a very nice class of person in my local TESCO – in recent weeks I had bumped into both PETER MANDELSON and TWIGGY there (not together, I hasten to add!) Sadly I don't have a pic of the gents but here's one of the ever gorgeous TWIGGY who currently has a new beauty book out, aimed at the over 40s (to be reviewed soon.)
TWIGGY. C.r.: FASHION TARGETS BREAST CANCER.
One of the most fun parties I attended at LFW was the launch of CHRISTINA EASTWOOD'S new handbag label EPHEMERAL BRAZIL (www.ephemeralbrazil.com) featuring the 'shortest catwalk at LFW'! The handbags are all made from recyclable materials by a co-op of women in the poorest areas of RIO and they are stunning and affordable. Guests included former Ambassador to Brazil SIR PETER HEAP and one of the UK'S favourite aristocrats, THE MARQUESS OF BATH (ALEXANDER), who is much in the news at the moment with his various – pregnant, non-pregnant and maybe-pregnant wifelets!
My photos feature myself with a particularly handsome and capacious EPHEMERAL BRAZIL bag and LORD BATH with myself and MICHAEL JACKSON'S better looking cousin, ANTONIA MOORE whose excellent photographic exhibition, LEGENDS BY LEGENDS, shared with PLAYBOY snapper BYRON NEWMAN is running until the end of this month at THE BEAUCHAMP, 44 Beauchamp Place, Knightsbridge (020 7581 8886).

Peeps always have a go at Size Zero models during LFW – we know that. But this season the afore mentioned adorable and cuddly King of the Jungle, CHRISTOPHER BIGGINS took things one step further by demonstrating with lots of jolly, erm........larger ladies to promote his hilarious new single BINGO WINGS (yes, really!), recorded with his new band, RubyCupids. Well done, CHRISTOPHER – pass the cornish pasties, please, mate!

Thank you for all your letters about 'expensive designer outfits', dear readers. I understand your problems perfectly but one does not always have to spend a fortune to look a million dollars. I recently found the perfect evening jacket for just £56 - RARE'S fab satin TUX DELUXE tuxedo jacket, a sexy and sophisticated bolero style with a lush red lining which spruces up any outfit. I wear this one myself over tees, bodices, tight leg trews and pencil skirts. Now here it is:

And now on to BEAUTY.
It is most important to have regular facials – at least once a month, if possible - especially if you live in a big, dirty city. The best facial I have had in West London recently was at THE BUTY SALON in Hammersmith Grove (020 8748 1247) where the delightful SAM gave me an Aroma Facial which was so relaxing that I just drifted off.............Firstly SAM performed an holistic analysis via a back massage, which was very pleasant as well as informative, then moved on to the facial itself. She used lovely nourishing DECLEOR products on my face to revive my dry holiday skin and it really felt as smooth as a baby's bum afterwards. I particularly liked the Aromessence Angelique Concentre Nourrissant which was ideal for enriching my 'middle aged mummy' 's skin and smelled sensational. Plus I was totally relaxed for the first time in ages, which was a huge bonus. Give the lovely SAM a bouquet!
If you haven't got time for a facial, you can still buy the products from THE BUTY SALON but I highly recommend giving yourself some 'me time' for the facial and maybe a nice full body massage, mani and pedi while you're there – they do all the usual treatments at this highly efficient, pretty and cosy salon.
If you feel you need to 'fill' the expression lines on your face after a certain age, the most popular filler nowadays to restore smoothness and elasticity to tired skin seems to be RESTYLANE Vital and the best doctor I have found for this treatment is DR ELISABETH DANCEY of 28 Winchester Street, Pimlico (020 7821 8257). Both DR DANCEY herself and her assistant FAYE are calm and unruffled but fast and accurate – all important to avoid any discomfort during and bruising after the treatment. Plus both ladies look totally gorgeous themselves which is very inspiring. You can have RESTYLANE Vital injected into your hands and decollete as well as your face to make sure you are looking fresh and youthful all over. In fact I tried this totally magic 'plumper upper' on my hands which really take a walloping what with all my outdoor sports and stuff and now they are as smooth and youthful as a teenager's! Fantastic treatment.
After these sorts of treatments I recommend using DERMACIA's Lycogel camouflage make-up to aid healing whilst covering any redness or bruising – available from DR DANCEY in various colours. It just means you can go out on that hot date immediately after 'maintaining' yourself and nobody will ever know.
The best PRODUCTS I have found for you this month, dear readers, are (in no particular order):
ELIZABETH ARDEN'S Advanced Eye Primer is self explanatory. You just pop it onto your lids before making them up and your eye shadow and liner stay beautifully fresh and dewy all day and night. You can also use the product by itself for a natural look.
Especially useful if you want to emulate the gorgeous MISHA BARTON's exotic eye make-up – here she is with her voluptuous sis:

HEAL is a new skin healing cream launched by a group of plastic surgeons calling themselves THE FIRM (very JOHN GRISHAM!) specifically for use on scars after surgery. Our post – op trialler LAURA said " HEAL felt cool and soothing, helped to reduce swelling and actually my scars healed up much more quickly this time than after my previous op when I just used ordinary moisturiser. I used the product on another (non post-op) scar I had as well, also successfully. It smells nice too."

MAMBINO ORGANICS have also brought out a new scar healing cream called C Section, specifically for C Section scars but which can be used anywhere on the face and body as long as the scars are under 2 years old. Our trialler NINA said "Fab! I can hardly see my Caesar scar now and my scars normally go keloid. Plus it worked on a recent one I got on my knee as well. I would recommend it."

GINVERA's Green Tea Marvel Gel for the removal of dead skin and blackheads is a gentle exfoliant enriched with Green Tea, Aloe Vera, Ginseng and herbs. I got one of my girls to try this one and she said it made her skin feel very fresh and clean. This product is also recommended for age spots and acne and pimple scars.

If you want to have a ravishing white smile without actually going to the dentist, try BLING Teeth Whitening Kit which is a do it yourself jobby that's really easy to use. The kit contains a mouthpiece and whitening gel and our trialler AMANDA is thrilled with her newly brilliant gnashers after just one month's use.

COURT HOUSE CLINIC'S amazing VITAGE Body Refining Gel really does keep the dreaded cellulite at bay and makes your thighs, bum, arms and tum smooth and glowy. I use this product myself twice a day and wouldn't be without it - much as I admire BIGGINS, I wouldn't fancy having 'bingo wings' myself!) Superb.

Gals with perennially sleek thighs 'n' bums include the sultry NANCY DELL' OLIO and here she is with the one and only JIMMY CHOO and a pal who I think may have tried the BLING Teeth Whitening Kit!

MINER'S have some great new nail colours for autumn – try Graphite (black) on your fingernails and Millennium (gold) on your toenails. Party time is here and you too could look as glitzy as fashion queen DONATELLA VERSACE who was sporting a set of magnificent gold talons at LFW.

BOOK OF THE MONTH:
Autumn is always a good time to curl up with a good book. My favourite this month is the very unusual A WOMAN WITH NO CLOTHES ON by VR MAIN (DELANCEY PRESS / £14.99), based on the dual stories of French painter EDOUARD MANET, 'the father of Modernism' and the model for his 2 famous paintings LE DEJEUNER SUR L'HERBE and OLYMPIA, VICTORINE MEURENT. The hero and heroine 'relate' the chapters alternately without chapter headings so you need to be on the ball, dear readers. The rich and aristocratic MANET'S unique style and the content of his work were unappreciated at the time and he struggled for acceptance by both the public and the critics, encouraged by his dear friend, the poet CHARLES BAUDELAIRE. MANET'S poor young model VICTORINE wanted to be a painter herself but her gender was against her in 1860s' Paris...................
Whether you're an art lover or not, this unusual tale will enthral you - it's very well written and so evocative of the 19th century Parisian art world with love, sex, money and jealousy all rearing their ugly heads. A great story about a fascinating subject.
And now for something completely different................VIRGIN ATLANTIC, the world's best by far transatlantic carrier (trust me – I've tried them all!) has teamed up with THE NATIONAL FILM AND TV SCHOOL for the second year running to showcase new film making talent onboard in its very own 2008 Film Festival In The Sky. VIRGIN shows Film School graduates' short films inflight and passengers vote for their top 3. These films are then assessed by a panel of highly respected industry figures and the overall winner receives 2 return flights on VIRGIN ATLANTIC = very useful for jetting off to LA to start a film production career! Good for the brilliant and innovative SIR RICHARD BRANSON for encouraging new young talent through his hugely profitable airline. The UK must nurture its budding film makers so that we Brits can keep up with our richer US counterparts and it's great to be able to see fresh new 'shorts' inflight, as well as big, theatrically released, features. Now heeeeeeeeeeeeere's SIR RICHARD:
SIR RICHARD BRANSON. C.r.: VIRGIN ATLANTIC.
Apart from nurturing new talent, we must all support worthy causes, dear readers. Please join me for the following extravaganzas where we can have a lot of fun and make money for these 2 wonderful deserving charities:

And, for the theatre lovers amongst you, I recommend you catch WATFORD PALACE THEATRE's new production of ALAN AYCKBOURN's hilarious but poignant comedy, ABSENT FRIENDS about a group of friends who are trying to cheer up their pal whose fiancee has drowned. Yes, the play's a little dark but, like real life, there is comedy in tragedy and who better than AYCKBOURN, the master himself to tell the tale with a deft touch. The timeless ABSENT FRIENDS, which is part of WATFORD PALACE's Centenary Season, is directed by BRIGID LARMOUR, the theatre's Artistic Director and the excellent cast comprises ABIGAIL THAW, JONATHAN GUY LEWIS, SALLY ANN TRIPLETT, IAN TARGETT, DALE SUPERVILLE and CLAIRE LAMS.
I played young mum, EVELYN in ABSENT FRIENDS 20 years ago, before I became a Housewife and Mother myself - it took me one day to learn my lines and 9 days to learn how to manipulate a pram around the set! There's no way I'm going to miss this new production which runs from October 2nd till the 25th so see you there.
