Potential Unlimited

Last month the world was devastated to lose that great film actor, CHARLTON HESTON. The Oscar winning star was much loved and will be much missed. I sat next to MR HESTON at DJ PETE MURRAY's birthday party once and found him delightful. He will live on through his wonderful epics, especially the extraordinary BEN HUR.
Here is a truly vintage pic of the iconic 'CHUCK' with SIR JOHN MILLS and OMAR SHARIF at a Celebrity Hand Imprinting ceremony in London in the 70s!

Another legendary star who is happily very much alive is TONY CURTIS and the iconic actor was in London last month for the launch of his CURTIS COLLECTION art exhibition at HARRODS. He also found the time to appear on various telly shows including the hilarious GRAHAM NORTON's where he gave the naughty comedian as good as he got. I hadn't seen TONY for over 20 years but was pleased to find him on great form, still with that SOME LIKE IT HOT twinkle in his brilliant blue eyes. The launch was attended by MOHAMMED AL FAYED himself, all the art gallery glitterati and some gorg gals including CHERYL HOWARD from ANOUSCHKA HEMPEL (LADY WEINBERG)'s chic boutique hotel, BLAKES (020 7370 6701) where TONY was staying with his stunning blonde wife, JILL. THE CURTISES live in Las Vegas and the paintings are all colourful and full of light; TONY is a highly talented painter as well as a brilliant actor.
Now heeeeeeeeeeere's TONY signing one of the beautiful prints my pal NICOLETTE and I bought.

My smart black trouser suit, by the way, is by FANNIANN (www.fanniann.com- my latest and greatest endorsement). FANNIANN designer and directors JANE HENDERSON, MICHELLE BYRNE and KEITH HENDERSON accompanied me to the event and we were all thrilled when lovely JILL CURTIS fell in love with my trouser suit. JANE is now busy designing some luscious creations for the voluptuous beauty.

Another interesting event I attended recently was the ANZAC DAY celebrations at AUSTRALIA HOUSE where national treasure DAME EDNA EVERAGE (BARRY HUMPHRIES) regaled us with some Aussie (I think!) songs. Funds were being raised for THE BRITISH LEGION, which is a wonderful cause – please donate if you can at:
020 7973 7200.
Guests included famous hoofers LIONEL BLAIR and ANTON DU BEKE and the dynamic NINA MISCHKOW and her hunky partner GRANT. NINA is currently designing a novel fashion accessory for us ladies which I will be reviewing soon – watch this space.

Still on the Aussie theme, best congratulations to OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN and her team of intrepid celebs, including SIR CLIFF RICHARD and JOAN RIVERS, who completed The Great Walk To Beijing in aid of THE OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN CANCER CENTRE, walking through a sandstorm in the Gobi Desert, amongst other things. My pic shows OLIVIA with fellow countrywoman DANNII MINOGUE and our very own LIZ FULLER looking happy to be stationary at last!

Talking of walking brings me to shoes – what to wear when your poor feet need a break? LOVE THOSE SHOES have just brought out the cutest little REDFOOT foldaway flats which are just the job when walking, dancing or just wearing heels has brought you to your knees! Pretty and bejewelled, you can wear them any time with any outfit. Lovely DANCING ON ICE winner SUZANNE SHAW apparently found the REDFOOT pumps a lifesaver, as you can see.

Fab idea – stockists:

LOVE THOSE SHOES also make a great beach / manicure sandal which is a flip flop shape with toe dividers – better for your posture and your metatarsal bones and really useful when your toenails are drying. The BEECH sandals are lightly padded, super comfortable and look pretty too, making them a good fashion accessory.

Still on the fashion front, this year's BAFTA TV AWARDS, compered by the super efficient but funny GRAHAM NORTON at THE LONDON PALLADIUM was a very visual affair. There were loads of LBDs, the best being MICHELLE COLLINS' high necked but backless number ("I thought I'd wear something simple this year", she told me) and some beautiful white or cream dresses, best being MELINDA MESSENGER's luscious ball gown. But there were also some nice splashes of colour with JOANNA LUMLEY going for orange VALENTINO, TAMSIN OUTHWAITE plumping (excuse the pun!) for a chartreuse maternity frock and TESS DALY wearing a mouth watering pink sherbert number. I chose a daring green HAVVA for AMAKA gown which made the 10 O'CLOCK NEWS and FASHION TV and felt very green goddessy. Here it is in all its glory, accessorised with BIZANTIUM jewellery (www.bizantiumcollection.co.uk) and a golden glow courtesy of THE TANNING SHOP in Kensington ( 020 7938 1932)!

The AMAKA showroom (020 7436 4013) is run by the beautiful and dynamic SAMAR KHALIL who is herself a talented designer with her own label called KUSHION which is young, fun and edgy. Check out:

On the fragrance front I have 2 'specials' this month which are absolutely outstanding:

Couture favourite RACHEL ELBAZ has repackaged her 2 year old DREAM perfume, which now comes in a gorgeous hand painted bottle with a distinctive fuchsia SWAROVSKI (020 7235 3979) crystal embedded in the top. DREAM is as dreamy as ever, with its blend of patchouli, jasmine and amber making it sweet but sophisticated. Perfect for sexy assignations.
Stockists: RACHEL COUTURE of Knightsbridge (020 7235 3979).

Secondly JACQUES AZAGURY have launched their signature women's fragrance, AZAGURY which is stocked exclusively by SELFRIDGES.
This light, floral scent comes in a delicate crystal bottle and smells divinely of summer meadows and woods. Think Midsummer Night's Dream and get yourself into wafty TITANIA mode.

Now that the hotter, drier weather is here (one can only hope in this country) our skins' thirsts will need quenching. The best new facial hydrating product I have found is DERMACEUTIC's Hyal Ceutic, which contains a strong level of hyaluronic acid, with hydrating and healing properties. Our HG guinea pig, GLORIA said "I have used the Hyal Ceutic for a few weeks and now my skin feels nice and plump. It usually gets dry and patchy at this time of year but with this product I haven't had a single moment of dryness."
Stockists: www.beautyisskindeep.com

For your body skin, try Japan's number one online skincare company DHC's new products, Q10 Body Gel and Q10 Body Treatment Oil which contain powerful anti-oxidants, Aloe and Vitamin A. Guinea pig GLORIA said "The DHC Gel and Oil made my skin feel really soft and silky within days. Even my husband noticed that my skin was smoother! I put the Oil in the bath as well with my bath salts. Very good."

Once your skin is smooth and silky, don't ruin it with a real tan – go fake. The mighty CLARINS have just brought out their Delicious Self Tanning Cream (With Unsaponifiables of Cocoa). I have no idea what an 'unsaponifiable' is but the cream smells gorgeous, glides on smoothly and gives "a deep, glowy colour", according to GLORIA who has been quite busy trialling products on behalf of the HG Beauty Office this month and will shortly be giving up the day job!

And, if you're not Going for Gold and just want a hint of colour, try my PRODUCT OF THE MONTH / MAY. Still with CLARINS, this is their Super Restorative Tinted Cream – basically a superior tinted moisturiser with an SPF of 20 that 'replenishes, lifts and illuminates the complexion'.
A tinted moisturiser is a lighter option than a foundation and is also ideal for use as a light make-up when you have a tan, real or otherwise. In fact I was myself wearing the Super Restorative Tinted Cream in shade 2 / Sand over my spray tan colour in Photo 5 above. It felt silky smooth and photographed well (in case you're into home movies!)

Thank you for all your letters about Botox. Sadly I can't answer all questions individually but I can just say that Botox is quite safe in the right hands (i.e a doctor's), the effects usually last from 3 months to 1 year and you really have to have a lot injected for your face to 'become completely impassive'. The best Botox practitioner I have found in London is the highly respected DR ELISABETH DANCEY whose clinic is in Pimlico (020 7821 8257). DR DANCEY, who does herself look fab, recently Botoxed my whole face in just 5 minutes while my pal NOLA watched bemused because I didn't flinch once. Such is the skill of a really good practitioner – "all you will feel is a little prick", as a certain beauty lecturer once really regretted saying on TV!

On the book front, I have an eclectic collection for you this month, dear readers:

QUOTABLE FATHERS by MILLY BROWN (SUMMERSDALE / £5.99) is an absolutely adorable little book which makes a wonderful – and economical – present for the dads in our lives. With quotes by SAMMY DAVIS JR., HEDY LAMARR, WALT WHITMAN, COLIN FIRTH, VIGGO MORTENSEN and a certain WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE, your hearts will just melt when you read these quotes.

Your hearts may not melt when you read WHICH Essential Guides' TAX HANDBOOK 2008/9 (£10.99) but your wallets might save a bit! As my accountant said, "this book could put us all out of business". If you have the time and your business is quite straightforward, take a read and fill in your own tax form this year. A truly eye opening book.

On the other hand you could give up slaving away on behalf of the INLAND REVENUE and take up knitting instead............ LOVE TO KNIT SOCKS by BRONWEN LOWENTHAL (CICO BOOKS / £12.99) is also an absolute eye opener but in a diferent way. You too could knit your own leg warmers and baby bootees and the patterns in the book are easy to follow. Personally I rather liked the knitted suspender belt!

Do you want to know what's going to happen in the future? Most people do – in fact RONALD REAGAN couldn't lead the Free World without consulting his psychic – allegedly. Celebrity psychic VALENTIN BORISSOV is London society's current favourite and he is contactable at:
07940 475 305 / www.valentinborissov.com
- or no doubt from the Spirit World too if you are reading this from Upstairs!
Young blade VALENTIN has just returned from another trip to Monaco where he was invited by some of his faithful followers from the inner circle of PRINCE ALBERT. His prediction that HIS SERENE HIGHNESS would NOT announce his expected engagement to CHARLENE WITTSTOCK on his birthday on the 14th March certainly came true. But what next for PRINCE ALBERT? And what next for YOU?
Here is VALENTIN himself with the debonair – and currently available, it would seem - PRINCE ALBERT and vivacious Monagasque socialite KRISTINA LYNN.
