Potential Unlimited

Welcome to the latest round up of news and views on UFOs, alien abductions, crop circles, ghosts, the paranormal, the unexplained, the weird and the wonderful.

X-Conference 2009

I've just returned from the X-Conference 2009, in Washington DC, organised by Steve Bassett. This was a fascinating event where the other speakers included sixth man on the moon Dr Edgar Mitchell - a true hero in every sense of the word. I had several fascinating conversations with him, and with another real-life hero, Dr Milton Torres. Milton Torres is a former United States Air Force pilot who, in 1957, was ordered to shoot down a UFO being tracked on radar over East Anglia. The UFO accelerated away at incredible speed. Dr Torres was told the mission was classified Top Secret and was told that if he spoke about his experience, he'd never fly again. I worked for the MoD for 21 years and worked closely with the Royal Air Force - such a threat is the ultimate threat you can make against these proud and brave people.

Into the Unknown

One of the UK's biggest conferences on the unexplained will be taking place on Sunday 31st May, at Garston Manor, Watford, to the North of London. I'll be giving a presentation about the release of the MoD's UFO files and will be giving attendees the very latest news on this ongoing story. Check out http://www.garston-manor-weddings.co.uk/ufo-conference.html for the details.

Sunday Night

One of Australia's top TV news shows, Sunday Night, broadcast a major UFO feature highlighting the release of the MoD's UFO files, the Rendlesham Forest incident, the Cosford incident and Wing Commander Alan Turner's experience of tracking UFOs on radar. The feature can be viewed at http://au.tv.yahoo.com/sunday-night/video/-/ watch/13047668/ or via Channel 7's http://au.tv.yahoo.com/sunday-night/ website. I was heavily involved in this feature, writing the story brief, being consulted on the storyboards and the CGI, as well as giving an interview.

Crop Circles

The crop circle season is underway again.  Whether one believes these patterns are made by people, extraterrestrials, Gaia or some sort of meteorological phenomenon, there's no getting away from the fact that they still excite the imagination and intrigue skeptics and believers alike.  Check out Lucy Pringle's website at http://www.lucypringle.co.uk/ for more details and http://www.circlemakers.org/ for a more skeptical view from the people who claim to make them.

Science: Impossible

As mentioned previously, watch out for a new series on History Channel (US) called Science: Impossible, which will look at various fringe science and exotic technologies. If you're interested in subjects such as robotics, nanotechnology, mind control, invisibility and weather warfare, this will be well worth checking out. I contributed to several episodes in my capacity as a defence analyst, commenting on the history and potential military applications of some of these concepts. While the precise broadcast dates are not known, I understand that the series is likely to be shown in the summer.

Nick Pope On Tour

I regularly speak at conferences on UFOs and the unexplained, and have a number of speaking engagements coming up over the next few months. I'll be speaking in Istanbul at a conference scheduled for 13th and 14th June, in Roswell, New Mexico at their 4th/5th July conference and in Barcelona at a 25th/26th July conference. Check out http://www.siriusufo.org/tr/?fx=h.oku&id=109 and http://www.roswellufofestival.com/festivalspeakers.htm and http://www.exopoliticseurope.com/en/ exopolitics-congress-2009.htm for more details about these events.

Joe's Campain

The beautiful Canadian province of Alberta is something of a UFO hotspot, perhaps due to its magnificent scenery, big skies and lack of pollution - perfect UFO spotting territory. The town of St. Paul in Alberta even boasts a UFO landing pad which was designed to attract extraterrestrial visitors. Travel Alberta have launched a campaign that features the UFO theme. Called Joe's Campaign, this is a fun and funky way of linking ufology with tourism, promoting Alberta as a holiday destination for adrenalin junkies, city breakers and laid back adventurers alike. Check out http://www.joescampaign.co.uk/ for more details. This is an interesting example of how the UFO phenomenon is increasingly part of popular culture.
