Make 2007 your Healthy Year
A positive way to live longer - Are you feeding your cancer?

I thought that the best gift that I can give you to start 2007 is well-researched information for your health. Before I was a specialist in hypnosis, I had a stint in Hollywood and Fleet Street as an investigative reporter. I seemed to have a nose for finding information that would become a lead story, and I've had few scoops in my time.

It incensed many of my colleagues in the press that I could just trip over something that would make world headlines. When I returned from America in the early 80’s I presented a story to my agent, entitled "Life’s a Bitch, You Get Aids and You Die." Nobody had heard of this new disease and when it was presented to the press, they said it would upset their readers. The reality was that I was six months in front of the first story that broke about the disease. It was a small piece and it would be a couple of years before it was accepted as being a threat.

My point here is - I have tried to use my skills and instincts to bring you knowledge to help you in these extremely toxic times. I wish you a healthy and chemical-free 2007…

Entertaining press colleagues on the yacht

THE WORLD HAS MORE OVERWEIGHT THAN HUNGRY PEOPLE

One in three will be dangerously fat by 2010

That is a third of all adults, a government report has revealed. The report by the Department of Health expects that 14 million adults and children will be so dangerously fat it will put their health at risk.

This problem is being called a public health time-bomb with millions of people eating in ignorance. They think their food is healthy only to find out later that they may be risking a life of heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Britain is now the second-fattest nation in the developed world with America being number one. Costing the health service an estimated £1 billion, the Government is now looking to take some form of action. What is even more frightening is that half of all children could be obese by 2020. This may mean for the first time in history that the children could die before their parents. Since we adopted our sedentary lifestyle several years ago, what has changed? The answer is the chemicals in the foods and mainly to extend the shelf life. I think we can safely say that the conventional (supermarket) food is to blame. We want everything immediately and for it to last (almost) indefinitely but unfortunately there are no free lunches in this life, it comes at a price to our health.

Now is a good time to check to see if you have a 'pesticide pouch'...

As I mentioned in one of my previous articles, only four years ago you would see only one obese person a week go past my yacht in St Katharine’s Dock. Last year it was about four a day. This year it was four an hour, with whole obese families walking past. I wasn’t far wrong in my calculations; it has been recorded that since 2003 obesity in adults has risen by more than a third. Do look at what you are eating if you want to stay healthy.

With my Husband James on the Yacht

When eating in company, my husband and I can almost predict who will have a stroke or a heart attack early in life by what is on their plate. However, we can only say so much.

I generally have 'half' an organic bagel with honey for breakfast. Recently, I decided to go out for breakfast and had a conventional bagel. I found that when I had eaten the whole bagel (half was not enough) I still wanted more. It tasted really good but with a combination of the lack of nutrients and food stimulants purposely added to entice you to eat more, I realised how much you have to eat to be satisfied with chemically adjusted food.

Let sleeping dogs lie

It is believed that we all have cancer in our systems and it can lie dormant for all of our lives unless we compromise our immune systems and feed the cancer. You cannot catch any disease with a healthy immune system but stress and an unhealthy lifestyle can put you at risk. You may think you are healthy but you need to check yourself out to see if you are. You may look healthy and be slim take Farrah Fawcett for an example just because you are slim and work out doesn’t mean you are not being affected. There is also the slim fat person where they are slim but the arteries are still clogging up. An easy way to check your health is by measuring your blood pressure and heart rate. If you are average then you may not be as healthy as you should be. Your body can be compromised by food that has ingredients that are carcinogenic, what you eat can determine your lifespan or worse your painful older age.

The good news is that 2007 could be your way of treating yourself to a healthy future and not be one of the 1-in-3 people to develop cancer, diabetes (About 194 million people worldwide suffer from diabetes and public health experts predict the number could reach more than 300 million by 2025). Or arthritis (where 7m people in the UK - 15% of the population - have long term health problems related to arthritis), when it is so easy to protect yourself. The latter two can be cured by changes of lifestyle for example ‘stop eating chemicals in foods’ and exercise correctly. You are far more likely to have any of these diseases as in the 1950’s and that is not because it wasn’t detected back then. It is a fact that there were fewer additives in the food and the addictives were less sophisticated, which contributes to people being prone to these diseases. Get a life NOW and go back to basics.

So many people suffer from Cancer because of the high use of plastics in cooking and food storage.

If you think I am over reacting then you should note the advice to cancer victims from the famous John Hopkins Cancer Centres who provides patient-focussed medicine to prevent, diagnose and treat human illness. I had no idea that the John Hopkins Centre’s were so vast. Here is some startling information they provide about:

1. No plastic containers in microwave oven.

2. No water bottles in freezer.

3. No plastic wrap in microwave.

Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Do not freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital, explained in a TV interview that dioxins were an extremely bad health hazard. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He warned that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastic releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.

Instead, he recommends using glass, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. He suggested that your frozen dinners, instant ramen noodles and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper may not be bad but you don't know what is in the paper so why take the risk?

He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

He also pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods about to be cooked in the microwave.

As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food.

Antibacterial products may be hurting our environment

After reading a report from a respected journalist who writes for the Chicago Tribune New York I decided that I was correct in my instinct not to buy antibacterial goods.

She says that, "In addition to antibacterial hand soaps and shampoos, the microbe-averse public can buy bacteria-fighting clothes, toys, towels, sheets, sponges, mops and even pens. More than likely you won’t think about the trillions of bacteria on your skin and noses and in your mouth and intestines". She explains that exposure to germs help develop a healthy immune system, and so repressing this natural health protection with chemicals may be even worse for you than the germs themselves.

She also points out that in the US $540 million was spent on antibacterial soaps, hand cleansers and detergents, which unfortunately contain chemicals such as Triclosan. The Food and Drug Administration found them to be no better than soap and water, so it looks like these are a waste of money. In a hospital environment it has been found that overuse of antibiotics by doctors are likely to play a greater role in the rise of the highly resistant super-bugs. To make matters worst the Triclosan and Triclocarban ingredients are turning up in fish, breast milk and wastewater. It is released into the environment in what looks like sludge, which is recycled and then put on agricultural fields. UGH!

The real scary part is that Triclosan mimics the thyroid hormone and is commonly added to soaps, toothpaste, deodorant, dog shampoo, cutting boards, clothing, toys and other antibacterial products. The U.S. Geological Survey has shown that it is present in 60 percent of U.S. waterways investigated. Studies showed that Triclocarban, similar to Triclosan, is found mostly in deodorant bars of soap. The scientists argue that the chemicals aren't necessarily harmful to humans, but there is more evidence that these chemicals may be bio-accumulating, so if it doesn’t harm you with the skin products then it will get you in the drinking water and potentially contaminated crops. Halden, a member of the FDA panel, commented "Plain old soap and water also removes and kills micro-organisms and has done so for thousands of years."

Also, antibacterial soaps don't prevent colds or flu, which are caused by viruses, not bacteria. And most experts say that unless you're in a hospital environment, using products with Triclosan - a biocide that can destroy biological structures at random - is like using a jackhammer to kill an ant.

Allison Janse, co-author of the manual "The Germ Freak's Guide to Outwitting Colds and Flu (an interesting book), explains that "when you buy an antibacterial cutting board and put raw chicken on it, you've just contaminated it. Buying these products, she said, "may give some people a false sense of security."

There may be a place for antibacterial products but not necessary at home when statistics show that soap and water is just as good.

Make up, egg and cream:
Tips:

Here are some tips that are totally natural and work better than any drug or ointment:

If you have a bad burn. For example spilling boiling water when you are cooking, picking up something very hot, or falling asleep in front of a blow heater when inebriated (well it has happened). Do not put water on it as recommended but immediately break a raw egg and use the egg white. Spread it across the burn and you will find the pain goes away and there is no blistering. A chef taught me that when I was growing up. I have only met one person - a nurse - who knew about this.

It is like a miracle; no scarring and the pain reduces or disappears, and (if you catch it in time) it heals exceptionally well. It acts like an extra skin and keeps the air from disturbing the healing. If you do not have an egg then do what you would normally do.

If you want to heal sores or cuts you can buy the Aloe Vera leaf and cut it open and spread it on the affected area. You will be amazed how quickly it heals. Most creams have it in the ingredients but the amount is so low that you don’t get the same benefit. It is wonderful as a very cheap facemask and for putting on your hands and feet. It also works as an anti fungal treatment.

Just cut the leaf (it is about a quarter inch thick), spread the pleasant jelly over the affected area or your face and neck for a short time, and then wash it off with warm water. There are many other herbs that you can use for illnesses that work quicker and are safer than synthetic ointments and creams.

You will be able to find chemical free makeup, face creams and shampoos on the market now. I would suggest you throw all your make-up and creams away if they have chemicals in them. I know you are unlikely to take this advice but if you want to live healthily, you should think very strongly about the chemicals in the contents of your produce and look on the Internet for chemical free products.

Cancer

Rather than feed cancer there are foods that can starve it or help to reduce. One such food is cabbage juice, a very strict diet of cabbage juice and cabbage to clear out the system and then fully organic food. Brown organic rice and lightly boiled vegetables and fish is an also excellent to aid recovery. Eating in conventional restaurants may damage your health.

Diabetes

A can of pop can contain as much as 20 spoons of sugar. So not having sugar in your tea or coffee will not let you off the hook if you are having sugar in everything including your toothpaste, read the labels it’s in almost everything.

High Blood Pressure

For high blood pressure remember some breads, even organic ones, have a high level of salt. A slice of bread can have as much as 10% of your recommended daily allowance of salt. A cup of soup can have 25% of your daily allowance so just because you don’t put salt on your food doesn’t mean you are OK.

You may be interested in finding out more on the subject of MSG since it can now can be hidden in the ingredient listed simply as spices. Dr Russell Braylock, author of "Excitotoxins the Taste that Kills" MSG and aspartames are Excitotoxins. Ex stimulate the brain and kill the brain cells.
