LADY JOAN OLIPHANT-FRASER

JEWEL: 4-6 Glasshouse Street, Piccadilly Circus. Tel 020 7439 4089

This Restaurant and Drinks Bar is really a jewel with its sparkling ceiling chandeliers, red velvet rooms and plushy seats. The evening I went they were holding a Live Music Showcase Party.

Singer Artist Lazenby, Fil Straughan and the 3-piece Band were terrific, so were the canapés, champagne and complimentary cocktails.

They hold regular events and weekly Live Entertainment, so phone and find out what is happening during the festive season.

CHARLOTTE STREET HOTEL: Charlotte Street, London. Tel: 020 7806 2000

Sunday Nights in London Town can be depressing – what to do – where to go.

Situated in Bloomsbury, just north of Soho this Hotel was opened in the year 2000. It is elegant, spacious and comfortable. The artistic 'Bloomsbury Set" atmosphere has been captured in paintings inspired by artists like Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant. The Hotel hosts a FILM CLUB – Sunday Night at the Movies, and offers a 3-course Dinner and Movie priced at £35.

My companion and I arrived at 6 o'clock, allowing 2 hours for dinner before the Movie started at 8 pm. The Dinner and accompanying wines were so sumptuous we needed two hours to take it all in. A choice of 3 Starters; my Companion chose Organic Serrano Ham with Kohirabi and wild rocket, which he savoured, with a glass of Sancerre. A French Rose wine made my Asparagus and taste buds blush with delight. A carefully selected light red highlighted his Sea bass, whereas my Duck and I enjoyed the succulent robustness of vintage Bordeaux. Delicious desserts and then THE FILM!

After the Film we adjourned to the Drawing Room and gazed into dancing flames from a coal fire. Coffee and wine completed a delightful evening.

The films varied from classics like 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' to Comedies like 'Four Weddings and a Funeral'.

MAYFAIR Concerts at the Grosvenor Chapel, South Audley St. Tel: 01737 77.

A lovely Church in the heart of Mayfair, on the 1st Tuesday of every month at 7 pm, a delightful Concert with stars like Yoko Ono on the Piano performing Haydn's Sonata, and Benjam in Segal tenor accompanied by Jonathan Beatty on the piano.

One hour of music, a free CD and a glass of wine. There is more to come – a free drink Reception after the Concert, which usually takes place at the Audley Pub on Mount Street. All this for only £10.

JAGZ CLUB, Station Hill, Ascot. Tel: 01344 878100.

On Sunday afternoons there is a special Roast Lunch and fantastic Jazz. When I went 3 great artists, Geoff Eales on the piano, Roy Babbington bass, Mark Fletcher drums, were playing music from the 60's, 70's and 80's, a tribute to Bill Evans.

Special celebrations over Xmas and New Year; John, the owner, has promised me a seasonal Goose, with trimmings, and a brandy laced Pudding. Prices are very reasonable, £10 for the Sunday Roast – my Chicken nearly jumped off the plate to dance to the beat. I will return and tell you more in my next.

My book – CHAMPAGNE EXERCISES by The Slender Gourmet – I eat it on – and Exercise it off – makes a great present for family and friends. Bookshops have sold out – you can get it at SNAPPY SNAPS, Shepherds Market in Mayfair.
