This spring has been a sad one with too many celeb deaths in the air.
The tragic death of the talented and beautiful NATASHA RICHARDSON after a 'routine' skiing accident when she bumped her head shocked the world. NATASHA who was only 45 at first felt alright but later deteriorated rapidly and succumbed to brain damage in spite of surgery within hours. Her family were all at her bedside and she was visited by fellow stars LAUREN BACALL and MERYL STREEP.
The lights were dimmed on both Broadway and in the West End for the popular TONY Award winning star and she will live on forever through all her marvellous screen performances. Who could ever forget the stunning MS RICHARDSON as the twins' mum in THE PARENT TRAP with LINDSAY LOHAN or as the hilarious socialite bitch in MAID IN MANHATTAN with JENNIFER LOPEZ and RALPH FIENNES.
Our hearts go out to all her family: mother VANESSA REDGRAVE, husband LIAM NEESON, sister JOELY RICHARDSON, sons MICHAEL and DANIEL JACK, niece DAISY BEVAN (who is at school with my own daughter), aunt LYNN REDGRAVE and uncle CORIN REDGRAVE and their families.
If anything positive can come out of the tragic untimely passing of a much loved star could it be that people will be made much more aware of how desperately important it is to examine any head injury immediately, within the first 'golden' hour?

The Memorial Service for 'irrepressible Welsh Baronet' (quote RICHARD KAY unquote) SIR DAI LLEWELLYN at ST PAUL'S CHURCH, Knightsbridge was indeed a memorable event.
The super popular and much loved DAI sadly died in January and there was only a small funeral for family and close friends (which I reported on in Feb.) So the Memorial was an occasion where the great and the good could all pay their respects and nearly 800 of them crammed into the beautiful church. The whole day was a wonderful DAI FEST, starting with lunches at FRANTOIO and MOTCOMBS and finishing with a wake at PUCCI'S hosted by HANDMADE FILMS' boss PATRICK MEEHAN and it was all organised perfectly by DAI's last love, the dynamic INGRID BENSON, Editor of MAJESTY.
The service was beautiful with readings, prayers and tributes by DAI's brother, the new Baronet SIR RODDY LLEWELLYN, his daughters OLIVIA and ARABELLA, actor ROBERT POWELL and long time girlfriend ANNABEL MILNES-SMITH. The address was by AYLESFORDS' supremo ANDY LANGTON, son of DAVID LANGTON the popular UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS actor and covered the most interesting bits of DAI's too brief but fascinating life. This included DAI's time in Australia with myself and JOHN RENDALL, owner of CHRISTIAN THE LION, U TUBE's latest and most unlikely superstar. There was a Police presence due to the expected arrival of a certain bounder who had libelled DAI after his death – who actually snuck in while the cops were talking to the vicar and was allegedly kneed in the groin by one of the ushers! Sadly I did not witness this unGodly incident myself but DAI must have been roaring with laughter for he was certainly amongst us all. A kick in the wotsit is always so much more satisfying than a mere writ!
So DAI'S Memorial, like his life, was not without great excitement.

Many of you, dear readers, were less than thrilled when I featured JADE GOODY in this column in the past. However none of us wanted the poor girl to die at the age of 27 leaving 2 young sons behind. Plus we have to remember that JADE's behaviour in the CELEB BB house was egged on by the mother, the boyfriend (now widower), the topless model and the ex singer. Plus her terminal illness at such a young age has raised awareness of cervical cancer in young women a thousand times over. This was of course largely due to the marvellous MAX CLIFFORD who single handedly changed our perception of the ultimate reality TV gal from sinner to saint. So let us also pray for the soul and family of poor JADE. My photo shows her at her healthiest with lovely C5 presenter LIZ FULLER.

Getting on to happier 'jade' subject matter, my ACCESSORY OF THE MONTH for April is this fab beaded black handbag trimmed with jade by new and exciting designer DEE whose prices suit the Credit Crunch admirably.

As you can see from the pic (taken at a benefit for FOOD RELIEF INTERNATIONAL at UTOPIA - my gorgeously colourful kimono-style wrap-around dress is by SPLERIN), the bag looks like a standard very elegant evening clutch. But it is in fact much more – in this first pic it is actually doubled over and, when folded down, becomes much more capacious – as in this second pic:

I think this is an abs brill idea and just the job for overnighters – you can get your toothbrush, cleanser and even a change of clothes into this bag without it looking obvious! Plus it is really pretty and unusual.

If you zoom into my face in any of these pix you will notice that my lashes are looking a whole lot more luscious and lustrous than usual! And my FRAGRANCE OF THE MONTH this time around is ELISABETH ARDEN'S new 'PRETTY'. The name says it all really – PRETTY is floral. flirty and feminine. I think this is ARDEN's best since PROVOCATIVE WOMAN and, like the above day/night cream, you can wear it at any time as it is both fresh and sexy. Needless to say I have confiscated this outstanding perfume from my Beauty Department and appropriated it personally – love this one.
On the fashion front, I received a lot of emails about the fantastic silver DOLY dress that I wore to the BAFTA FILM AWARDS. Another Brit who has returned to roost recently – this time from Manhattan after a highly publicised and messy divorce – is 'U TUBE WIFE', TRICIA WALSH-SMITH, the most famous divorcee since IVANA TRUMP. Lively TRICIA is the gal who went on U TUBE to tell the world how her hubby PHIL SMITH, President of Broadway's famous SCHUBERT ORGANISATION, didn't have sex with her for 18 years but had a drawer full of Viagra, condoms and porn films – allegedly = yikes! Now former actress and playwright TRICIA has turned singe/songwriter and has written and recorded an album about her marriage called ARM CANDY AND TROPHY WIVES and was recently spotted filming a pop video in beautiful downtown Kingston – er, Surrey, not Jamaica!
